What I Learned About Categories and Tags

Categories and tags are tools that help organize blog posts and make a website easier to explore. Categories identify the main subjects covered by a website and group related posts together. They function like broad sections or chapters. Tags are more specific words or phrases that describe important details within an individual post. A post usually belongs to one or two categories but can have several relevant tags.

For my gut-health website, I plan to create categories based on major topics such as gut health research, nutrition, motility and constipation, and my personal health journey. I will use tags to identify more specific subjects within those categories, including the microbiome, fiber, SIBO, digestive wellness, and healthy foods. Using categories and tags consistently will help readers find related information and follow the topics that interest them most.

Learning how to use these tools has also shown me the importance of planning a website’s organization before publishing a large amount of content. I want each category to have a clear purpose and each tag to be useful rather than creating too many similar labels. This will help keep my website organized as I add new posts.
